SUB-TEAMS

Since Rover Team is a multidisciplinary organization, we have different teams for each part of the rover.

Suspension

Suspension

The Suspension team is for those who are interested and/or skilled in advanced mechanical systems for physical movement and support. They create the chassis, legs, wheels, and suspension system that allows the Rover to cross extremely difficult terrain in relative safety. Mostly made of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineers, this group usually boasts the largest numbers in our team.

Controls

Controls

The Controls team is responsible for the electrical components of the Rover as well as power and data communication to all the modular subteam components. This team specializes in programming, data and power management, and pilot interface. Mainly made of electrical and computer engineers.

Arm and Gripper

Arm & Gripper

The Rover has to do many dexterous tasks at competition including operating tools, assisting astronauts, and inputting data into a keypad. Therefore, we have our own multi-functional team that specializes in creating a robotic arm capable of all of our tasks. This is usually a joint effort with Mechanical, Aerospace, and Electrical Engineers working together.

Sample Return

Sample Return

The Sample Return team is focused on drilling into the soil and retrieving deep soil samples in order to identify the presence of microscopic lifeforms. Therefore, this subteam creates a science module that attaches to our Rover and performs whatever tasks we need. Mainly made Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.

Proof of Life

Proof of Life

The Proof of Life team is our group's residentscientists. This subteam studies microscopic lifeforms and develops tests that we can perform both on board the Rover and on samples delivered by the science module. They are also responsible for identifying geologic features that indicate strong probability for the presence of life (e.g. ancient river beds). They are usually Life Science, Biology, and Geology major.
